Smooching pig for a cause

TruMark Financial held its 11th annual Financial Literacy Fundraiser last Wednesday at the Abington Art Center to promote financial literacy in Northeast Philadelphia schools.

Participants earned the honor of kissing the potbelly big, named Raines, by raising funds for the initiative.

Educators, local businesses and even TruMark employees stepped up on stage with a snack between their lips to entice Raines to come in for a smooch. All for a good cause, of course – the event is designed to both spread awareness and equip schools with the tools to teach basic finance to students.

Topics discussed at the event included saving, interest, credit scores and financial decision making. Marc Farzetta, a radio and podcast host, emceed and even kissed the pig himself.

Teachers and staff from Maritime Academy Charter School, George Washington High School, Baldi Middle School, Our Lady of Calvary and St. Jerome School participated as their students and community cheered them on.
